I was stumped looking for a subject for my November newsletter. Then on Halloween morning I received the above email.
Dear Diane, Congratulations....
As anyone who works hard everyday at what they do knows, a compliment goes a long way. Even without them I'd be in my studio painting everyday because that's what I love to do but getting recognition fires me up even more. It stirs in me the desire to do better.
This particular painting has won 3 awards and yet it has never sold. I don't know why that is. It's baffling to me. I just paint what I love to paint and if my work speaks to someone enough to lay out their hard earned money then I am very grateful. If not, I still love it because there is a part of me in each and every brush stroke.
So I guess the answer to my question is this; awards are a reminder that what we're doing means something to someone.
We are heading into the holiday season now. I hope you will be able to share it with your family and friends even if it's just on Zoom or FaceTime.
I think we all deserve an Award for surviving 2020!
Please let me know if I can help you with a holiday gift.
Cheers from the studio,
Diane
