A new online show opens today at Women Painters of the Southeast. I was happy to learn that the two paintings I entered were accepted. There are so many artist I admire in this show, I am thrilled to be included!

Both paintings were painted in my studio, from photo reference taken with my iPhone and my memories of our sailing trip down the Intercoastal Waterway. It was a trip of a lifetime for me, something I dreamed of doing for the last 25 years! We even bought a smaller sailboat with a shorter mast to go under all the bridges along the way! Our 42' Beneteau, RESTLESS spirit, didn't let us down. There were highs and lows of course but for the most part it was a wonderful experience, taking 6 month to complete. We bought the boat in Hampton, VA and sailed all over the Chesapeake Bay, up the Deleware River to Philadelphia and back down to our home port at the Port Canaveral Yacht Club in FL.

The Alligator River is a portion of NC that captured my heart for its rural beauty. There were no other boats around and it almost felt primeval. It was a calm, quiet, misty morning as we pulled up anchor and made our way south to Oriental, NC, to spend a week at the marina.

This was an area near Palm Coast, FL. It began to get very hot and the day felt almost steamy. The only sound was the boats engin slowly going along, it was so hot even the birds were quiet.


I plan on doing more of these. I have enough memories for a lifetime of paintings, they are just waiting to come to life.

We recently sold our sailboat and moved to Raleigh, NC. I have never lived so far from the ocean in my life and have mixed feelings about letting go. The ocean and sailing have always been part of my life. Now I will be looking for new inspiration in a new state.

As the saying goes "the journey is the destination"
